Extra rations for all.........

This is not smallholding weather, just saying, not complaining, just saying.
So need to give everyone a boost of extra rations....
a few more handfuls of grain for the chickens and geese, ......

an extra pot of food for Max, mum pig, and piglets...
(plus an extra back scratch for Max)

...... extra hay going in to the sheep....

(somewhere in amongst that lot are ten lambs)

...... extra feed bought in for the cows .....

...... extra nibbles (crisps, choco bars) for Lester...
and.....

One jar Nutella + 1 banana + toast = extra rations for me!
Yummy!

Oh we do have 'proper' smallholding food to eat,
but sometimes there is a need to have comfort food.
I fear that the Nutella will not last long now it is opened.
But this is only the second pot I have bought here,
and given that it is even too cold for our builder to work,
I think that we can forgive ourselves for straying from our chosen path of self sufficiency,
just until it gets a little warmer!

Sometimes we just need that extra stodge! I cooked a jam roly poly the other night when my wife was saying she was cold, warmed and filled us all up. One of my favourites but for vegetarians!

we finally got nutella over here - it's been several years. so glad. now there are all kinds of other varieties by other companies. i remember when i first encountered it - i think in France - i thought, 'chocolate for BREAKFAST? this is the best place ever.'

Hell Vera, Have been reading here for yonks and am inspired and very envious of your energy and stamina.
I can not keep nutella in the house, I am drawn to it and it must be eaten asap and then I suffer unwellness and guilt. However I do feel that you have earned this indulgence, so enjoy with a happy heart. I will just eat my banana and think of you.

Amazing what you learn on Twitter.
Today is (apparently) World Nutella Day. Just so you know.. extra rations all round.

Kev, I made a similar 'stodge' pudding for us the other night. It had to be done, and went down a treat with hot custard. Made us feel all warm and cosy inside!

OhioFarmGirl, wow, you, too, can have Nutella!!! Now that should cheer you up on a cold day!

Irene, Hi, and thanks for visiting. Oh dear, what a shame you can't eat Nutella. But I think that I shall have to be careful of how much I eat, and just save the purchase of a pot for mid winter blues!

Jessica, Ok, will do. Obviously one must celebrate 'World Nutella Day' so therefore I shall just have to have double portions!!

We all need high, slow release carbs in weather like this...
the body demands it!
Else, we wouldn't be able to work...
BUT... I cannot abide Nutella...
too greasy by half...
however, a lot of our local stores do a plain chocolate spread.
Bio Jardin is the make...
Recipe:
Take two slices of very fresh bread...
put peanut butter on one...
that is proper 95% peanuts and 3% peanut oil [I still can't work out what the other two percent is... there is no added sugar... and 0.3% salt... so there is 1.7% of what?
On the other slice spread a thin layer of the chocolate spread...
don't add too much, the flavour is so strong it drowns everything else out...
then before assembling the sandwich... spread Breizh Karamel on one slice...
this can be as thic as you like...
I don't use much because that can drown out the other two.
Slap two halves together and eat, slowly...
I start by knibbblin' almost all the crust off...
then start on the gooey centre!

Another, which can be done with Nutella is the....
Banoffi sandwich...
mash banana, Breihz Karamel and a chocolate spread of your choice together and give it a minute in the microwave [on full]...
spread the resultant wonderful gloop on som fresh bread or warm toast... or muffins!

You definitely need treats on a cold winters day. Sometimes its these little things that keep us motivated x

Livestock cost a lot to keep, don't they Vera? But then again so do we.

I love Nutella but never buy it as Nigel just leaves it for me, it does not do much for the scales!!I can eat a whole jar without batting an eyelid!!

Keep warm and enjoy eating that bit extra, you and the animals :) Diane

Tim, oh now, inches are going to be added to my waist if I try those yummy treats!

Kerry, it's got to be a nibble of chocolate when one has frosty toes!

Northsider Dave, ...everyone is on double rations as it is, but we couldn't help but give them extra when that snow fell!

Diane, oh wow, another Nutella-holic!

Oooooo... Nutella is my one vice. I found that if you mix it with equal parts peanut butter you have Reese's toast. Deadly stuff, that.

It's been a long winter over here, too. I'm so ready for spring!

I enjoy your blog. :)
